Preparing for New Year's Resolutions

We are now quickly approaching that time of the year where we will need to set our New Year's resolutions.

Make an idea list now
As soon as you read to post you should begin to make an idea list of the goals you may want to accomplish next year. If you wait until New Year's Eve or Day when you have sat down to actually commit to those goals then you are going to have a heap of trouble coming up with them. Great ideas seldom come to us when we force them. So have some way of keeping track of ideas as they come to you so that when you do sit down to set goals you will have a list of options in front of you to choose from.
In my series on goals and iPads I have a post dedicated to writing goals down: click here to read it.

Consider the four areas of life
There are four parts of life that we should set goals in every year to make sure we maintain a healthy, well balanced life where we are progressing:
  1. Physical
  2. Spiritual
  3. Mental
  4. Social
You aught to set at least one goal in each of these areas this New Year's. As you are brainstorming over the next little while keep in mind which of these areas each goal fits into, this will make it much easier when it comes to deciding which ones to commit to.

Set up a system of tracking
Before the fateful day arrives develop a system you will use to track your goals during the New Year.

This is NOT T-ball!
You have to keep score!

The biggest problem with games in which they don't keep score is that there are no winners. You want to be a winner at your resolutions. You have to keep score in order for that to happen. So set up the system now, before you need it. It will be much easier to accomplish your goal that first day if you already know where and how you will be recording your progress.

Don't be afraid to continue
If you did not accomplish your resolution from this year don't be afraid to continue it with greater resolve next year. Of course, you should do an evaluation of why you did not meet your goal and adjust or prepare accordingly for this coming year.

Now you are ready to start preparing for New Year's resolutions. I guarantee if you follow these suggestions they will go better than they ever have before. So don't waste time, get going now, and remember, live better.
